What's the SECRET to getting a "digital to analog audio converter" working with a toslink out port? Why would the ports on 5 out of 6 devices fail? (NOTE - on all the devices that allowed a choice for Dolby or PCM for the digital audio port, I chose it. The audio signal is analog in nature but it is converted using ADC (analog to digital converter) into digital format to edit & store in storage devices in various digital formats such as mp3, wav etc.

(I made sure the TV was using PCM but no difference, and this generation of XFinity box did not have an "Audio Mode" section.) But when it arrived, it didn't work using the Toslink out on either the TV or the Xfinity box. When I saw that both the Samsung TV and the Xfinity set top box had a Digital Audio Out (Toslink out), I went online and bought a "digital to analog audio converter". Analog TVs can receive digital television (DTV) signals by using a Digital-to-Analog Converter Box that can be purchased at retail stores. While many Audio/Video (A/V) receivers are capable of converting analog signals to output them via the digital HDMI jack, it is not possible to convert a digital signal to be output via an analog composite or component (Y/Pb/Pr) jack. (The new TV is connected to Xfinity box via HDMI cable.) A digital-to-analog converter is not available. Her new cheap Samsung TV does NOT have an audio out AUX port for a 3.5" jack. If you want to use the ARC function, you need an HDMI ARC to analog audio converter, which has 2-channel L/R and 3.5mm AUX audio output port to allow you to connect your TV.
My hearing-disabled older client has a set of special earphones that require a 3.5" ("aux") audio out jack. However, it’s annoying that many old external speakers or soundbar only has L/R or 3.5mm AUX audio input port, neither ARC input nor even a digital optical/coaxial port.
